Class of 2013 - Players to Watch

Although we feel it is too early to “rank” the Class of 2013 (Current 9th Graders), this class looks to be another very deep and talented group. We expect several talented freshman to be impact players at the varsity level for their high school teams this winter. One player, Peter Jok of Des Moines Roosevelt, deserves a special mention: he was recently ranked as the top player in the country by Antonio Curro of NY2LA Sports.

As the players in this class continue to develop their games, there is no doubt that we’ll add many more names to this list until we update (and rank them) over the Holiday break.

10 Players to Watch (In Alphabetical Order):

Dondre Alexander (6-0, Iowa City West)

Dallas Ennema (6-5, Sheldon)

Jace Hanna (6-0, Cedar Rapids Prairie)

Peter Jok (6-4, Des Moines Roosevelt)

Jared Jones (6-0, Des Moines Christian)

Chance Miller (5-11, Iowa Mennonite)

Jeremy Morgan (6-1, Iowa City West)

Payton Plagge (6-6, West Fork)

Brandt Van Roekel (6-3, Boyden-Hull)

Josh Weeber (6-4, Dubuque Senior)

  1. This is a good list and I know about 5-6 others in the Des Moines area that can be added to it. I have seen a majority of these players play and know that Jok is the biggest name on here but a couple that will sneak up on people are Josh Weeber and Jared Jones. Josh has a great inside game and the body to develop and Jared is probably one of the best shooters in the state as a freshman!

  2. I agree with Waukee Hawks, Des moines has some more players that could be added to this including Brandon Decker (Des Moines Lincoln) who might play for the Attack and Peter Nixon (Des Moines Roosevelt) who plays for Kingdom Hoops. Nixon is a great 3 point shooter and Decker is great 3 point shooter and good off of the dribble for the pull up jump shot. Des Moines looks very strong for the class of 2013 led by Peter Jok. My son has played against him several of times and he is unstoppable.

  3. I think Vashaawn Green from ames should be added to this list. He isnt the peter jok, or harrison barnes type, but he can get to the basket whenever he wants. Vashawn is also a great ball handler. He has a killers mentallity and can guard anyone you give him, and with the help from kingdom hoops and coach Vance Downs Vashawn can become unstoppable.

  4. I think this is a great start but there are a few left out. Starting off with Mark Spicer (Cedar Rapids Kennedy)Great guard, good ball handling awesome passer and becoming a great shooter and not to forget his amazing ability to rebound and his defense . Other player I had in mind is Craytion Roberson (Cedar Rapids Jefferson) Earlie one of the best shooters in this class, sees the floor well and a well rounded player.
Both this players are amazing. This class will be a majority centers and forwards, this class will be short guard, so when you get guys like Mark Spicer and Craytion Roberson with the ability to handle the ball well and score and still be able to better there teams I think that shows alot of there game.

  5. Very true P.J. this is a class of mostly "big men." What AAU team do those to kids play for? I haven't seen many guards up by Cedar Rapids and that area besides the Barnstormers but I do know thta Kingdom Hoops and the Attack do and should have some very good guards out of the Des Moines area (around there as well).

  6. I dont think that marky and creighton are that much better than anybody else in this class. Marky still has to learn to not always gamble and play staight up defense. I have seen him get burnt lots of times after he gambles. Creighton is good but he has to work on defense and his jump shot.

  7. Des Moines for this class! Roosevelt and Lincoln are tough. Roosevelt is led by Peter Jok, and also have Peter Nixon from Kingdom Hoops and 2 players off of the Iowa Storm. Lincoln is led by Brandon Decker (Rumor is Decker is going to play for the Attack.) and Trevon Young is very athletic. Expect big things from these Des moines schools.

  9. I agree with P.J. Mark Spicer and Crayton Robertson are amazing gaurds and it'll show this up comming season. Mark can easliy beat almost all of his defender off the dribble I've seen him do it many times. I've been his traner for a year and a half now. I also think Mark has a lot to bring to every team he's played on so far, and I don't disagree with warriorpg23 Mark is a gambler but he's came a long way. I think I've herd he's playing with the Barnstormers or Mavericks this year.
I've also herd he'll be atteneding prairie soon. (idk when but thats what I've herd.) But Mark is a great play, and Im sure when the season comes we'll hear good things about him on varsity.

  10. All Iowa Attack rosters are up. Decker is playing for them. Anybody know about Martin Bros. at this age group?

  11. Marky Spicer is going to prairie to play with the Fuller kid and Jace Hanna. But there is no way that he is going to play varsity.

  12. just a thought... if many kids dont play varisty because of 4A or anything like that, couldnt that be tough to rank them then. Shouldnt you wait until after the aau season is over? Just a thought

  13. I think that would be a good idea cause there is alot of talent in this class and not many of them will play varsity. And just cause they dont play varsity doesn't mean there not one of the best that could be cause they go to a really good school. But it's going to show when there playing with there leavel if there one of the best or not.

  14. Very true Kevin. Especially as the class of 2012 is tough it could be tough to be moved up to varsity.

  15. Update on Jared Jones from DSM Christian. Played quite a few minutes in his first varsity game and scored 15 points on 5-9 from 3 point range. This was in a win over West Central Valley. Will post more after each game. Thanks

  16. I think that vashawn green is perhaps the most overrated baskteball players in his class. He consistently airballs shots, misses dunks, and has no idea what he's doing. GreenVashawn (who is in fact vashawn green) actually suits up for freshmen, sophomore, and varsity games, and recieves less playing time than two other freshmen. Simply put, Vashawn sucks dick at basketball

  17. Also, kevin your stupid because if a player cant even play varsity his first couple years he cant go to a good college to play basketball. And Yammi23 is also retarded because vashawn is awful at basketball. Holy shit he dunked! He must be the next lebron or something! Finally, vashawn is just a straight up douche

  18. Well I really haven't herd of this Vashawn Green kid but I know your compleatly wrong about going to collage if you don't make varsity your freshman or sophmore year. There are many of grate players that didn't start off playing varsity in the NBA right now and they went to great collages off full rides. Starting off with Michael Jordan! One of the greast players who ever played the game and he didn't play varsity untill he was a Jr. and he got little playing time untill his SENIOR in high school! OR Dwyane Wade! He didn't play varsity untill he was a Jr.! And they've had great success through out their careers! So what are you talking about!

  19. hey this is the Vashawn Green. Im smart enough to know not to post something about myself and people where playing on my acount. I dnt even get on this website so pphm can suck it

  20. State tournament at Dowling this last weekend was pretty weak but some pretty good performances from Michael Kinning, Clint Boffeli, Trevon Young, Dalton (not sure of last name from Iowa storm), Brandon Decker, Matthew Haack, and Tyus Mason. These players stood out at the tourney this weekend. The Cedar Rapids and Iowa City teams weren't as great as expected. All in all not the greatest tournament as the Iowa Storm beat the Lincoln Rails in the championship.

  21. Tumause Carr attends Central High School As A Freshman- A heady and versatile performer on both ends of the floor. Excels on the wing. Finishes in transition. Can score with his jumper. Very unselfish. Does a very nice job of making the extra pass to open teammates for higher percentage scoring opportunities.

  22. my name is Andy Cooper and i should be on the class of 2015 players to watch for. i am friends with Dallas Ennemas brother so i see him ever week and play basketball with him. i can score 20 or more points a game. i am from Sheldon, Iowa with Dallas Ennema

  23. Tumause Carr’s Weakness: As a playmaker he is much more effective in transition, once the tempo slows he struggles making reads and deliver passes … His release is a little slow, but his shooting form is decent, unfortunately at this point he is a non threat from the outside … The shooting inconsistency limits him since people back off, making his driving lanes that much more congested, forcing him to drive into heavy traffic … In pick&roll situations, he is also very shaky because defenders always go under the screen daring him to shoot, which limits the movement and action as well as his passing options

  24. Darnell Knox a 6' gaurd from east high school..a must to see im very suprised he's not on this list

  25. Where is Brennan Hammer in all of this talk?? Hammer can dunk. thats right a high schooler can dunk. His name is Brennan Hammer. He can only dunk on 9 foot hoops but thats ok because he can touch backboard pad...on a good day. His layup form is ridiculous. Tom Izzo said that he has never seen someone shoot a layup so crisp. Dont even get me started on dap. He and Cliff Sims give dap like its their job...crisp, clean, and the way it should be distributed. Now for the players surrounding him...lets start with Tyler Butz. Tyler Butz and Brennan (I need money, horse, best jump shot ever, get all the chicks, horse, horse, horse, hustle)Hammer are going to definitely going to do D1 if not get drafted in the first round in the NBA draft. Draven Fuller: this young man knows way more than any coach out there and is going to walk on at Tulsa and get his coaching degree so he can make Phil Jackson look horrible. Tyler Mougin has a horse. Kentrel "Goofy" Smith is fresher than the word fresh...he can dougie..yeah ik.

  26. You know, I would agree with Seth on this one. I play hard and get harder giggity. Tyler "Boosie" Butz is D1 for sure and Draven fuller DEFINITELY knows more than the coaches do!! He is the smartest basketball player in the class of 2013 and probably 2012 and 2011!
